Lille Escalon, Bergen December 17, 2011

Saptamana trecuta am fost la o cina tapas cu colegii mei la restaurantul Lille Escalon din centrul orasului Bergen. In Bergen sunt doua restaurante Escalon, iar noi am fost la Lille Escalon de pe strada Neumannsgate (langa cinema). Ceea ce mai e bine de retinut este ca restaurantele Escalon a fost votate in 2010 “cel mai bun loc unde poti sa mananci” din Bergen.

Noi am servit, dintre meniurile “Platos Combinados”, platoul cu 10 feluri diferite “Plato de 10 Tapas” in care bucatarul te serveste, la alegerea lui cu 10 feluri diferite de portii de mancare. Astfel ca cina noastra a continut:

1. un sos aioli si cu paine proaspata – Painea foarte buna, proaspata (am cerut cu totii supliment). Sosul foarte bun.

2. prosciuto crudo – bun si proaspat!

3. feta + rosii+ busuioc si masline – OK

4. creveti – Bun.

5. scoici – Bune.

6. frigarui de vita – Foarte Bune!

7. cartofi + sos de chili – sosul foarte picant!

8. bulete de branza – OK.

9. curmale invelite in sunca si prajite – Delicioase! Tips de la J.: se prepara foarte usor acasa, in tigaie/la cuptor/grill si iti impresionezi invitatii cu acest preparat. Clar ca am sa il incerc cat de curand.

10. chiftele in sos de rosii – Nu mi-au placut deloc! Gust ciudat.

Desertul a fost la alegere (pret separat). Eu  mi-am ales “Tres Tapas Postres” care era o combinatie de 3 deserturi diferite: un bulgare de inghetata de coacaze, un glob de crema Catalana (un fel de creme Brulee) si 2 bile facute din prajitura lor cu ciocolata.

Atmosfera si compania a fost grozava, unele feluri de mancare foarte bune altele asa-si-asa, dar per ansamblu mancarea a fost OK. Ceea ce nu mi-a placut nici mie nici altora a fost faptul ca cele 10 feluri de mancare au fost servite foarte repede. Parca veneau din ce in ce mai repede si clar ca era greu sa faci pauze cand ii vedeai pe toti in jurul tau mancand, plus ca erai curios ce au mai adus si mai era si pofta :). Astfel cam intr-o ora am mancat cele 10 feluri de mancare. Un pic prea mult si un pic prea repede.

Am inteles de la colegii mei ca restaurantul celalalt, Escalon Fløyen, are aceleasi feluri de mancare, doar ca mancarea are gust mai bun. Mi-am promis sa incerc si pe acesta impreuna cu sotul meu intr-o zi cat de curand. Din partea mea Lille Escalon din Bergen primeste 4 flori de crin.

Last week I had a tapas dinner with my colleagues at Lille Escalon restaurant from the Bergen city center. In Bergen there are two Escalon restaurants, and we went to eat this time at the one from Neumannsgate street (next to the cinema). It is also good to know that the Escalon restaurants were voted in 2010 as “the best place where you can eat” in Bergen.

From their “Platos Combinados” menu we served “Plato de 10 Tapas” consisting of 10 different dishes at the cook choice. Thus, our dinner was:

1. aioli with fresh baked bread – fresh and tasty bread (we all ask for more). Very good aioli.

2. prosciuto crudo – good and fresh!

3. feta cheese + tomato + basilicum and olives – OK

4. shrimps – Good.

5. blue shells – Good.

6. beef grilled on a skewer – Very Good.

7. potato + chilli sauce – the red chilli sauce was very spice 🙂

8. cheese balls – OK

9. bacon wrapped dates – Delicious! Tips from J.: it is easy to prepare them at home in a pan/in the oven/on the grill and you will impress your guests with it. For sure, I will prepare it at home asap :).

10. meat balls in tomato sauce – I did not like them. Funny taste.

The desert was at our choice, I had the “Tres Tapas Postres” which is a combination of 3 different deserts: blackcurrant ice-cream, Catalans cream (similar with Creme Brulee) and 2 little balls from their chocolate cake.

The atmosphere and the company was great, some of the food was really good, the rest so-so, but as a general impression the food was OK. What I and some others did not like was that the 10 different choices of food were served a little bit too fast. They were served faster and faster and it was terribly hard to eat slow and with small breaks when everybody else were eating. Besides we were curious what they brought on the table and it was difficult to resist :). Thus in about 1 hour we ate all the 10 dishes. A bit too much and a bit too fast.

Some of my colleagues told me that the food tastes much better at the other restaurant Escalon Fløyen. They said that the dishes are pretty much the same, but somehow the taste is better. I promised myself to take my husband there sometime for a dinner just to try it. Soon. But until then and for the moment, Lille Escalon from Bergen gets from me 4 lilies.
