Care restaurant are mancare buna?

140 Euro.

Da-uri:

– un mare plus pentru modul de aranjare a meselor, o adevarat arta, fiecare masa avea personalitatea ei, iar servetelele, tacamurile si paharele erau aranjate in moduri inedite si diferite. Extraordinar de frumos;

– copiii primeau creioane colorate si puteau desena direct pe masa, adica peste fata de masa era asezata o coala mare de hartie pe care copiii puteau sa coloreze,  o modalitate foarte buna de a le da o ocupatie si de a nu se plictisi;

– locatia foarte buna, interiorul decorat frumos si cu bun gust;

– servirea si chelnerul excelente;

– vinul a fost bun (nu mai imi aduc aminte de care era);

– din 4 feluri principale (fara meniul pentru copil care a fost numai cartofi prajiti) 3 persoane au fost multumite de ce au servit;

– farfuriile si tacamurile deosebite;

Nu-uri:

– antricotul de bou nu a fost facut prea bine, adica persoana care l-a mancat il prefera “well done” si l-a primit mai mult mediu;

– desertul de ciocolata, era foarte rece si tare, cred ca a stat lafrigider, era greu de mancat cu lingurita si avea un gust de invechit sau mai degraba un gust ciudat de la ceva de prin frigider;

– baia am frecventat-o de 2 ori si nu arata foarte bine, hartie igienica pe jos, cosul de gunoi plin ochi cu hartii pe langa el, chiuveta era uda peste tot;

– muzica din local era o idee prea tare, de abia auzeam ce vorbeau persoanele din partea cealalta a mesei;

– pagina de web a localului ar trebui adusa la zi in functie de modificarile survenite in meniu;

What would be better to do on a week-end afternoon than to go out for dinner with your family and friends. The questions that always come to mind in this situation are: Where should we go? Which restaurant has good food? Well I have decided that I will write a review here for each restaurant I will try out from now on.

Last Saturday, our choice was Bølgen og Moi – Bar and Brasserie – of which we heard that it is a nice place, with reasonable prices for Norway :). Then, I read a little about this place and this is what I found out. Bølgen og Moi was founded in 1995 by two Norwegian chefs: Trond Moi and Toralf Bølgen. The business had the idea to combine good food, extraordinary service, and fine wines together with art. Presently, there are eight restaurants in Norway (in Briskeby, Høvikodden, Nydalen, Tjuvholmen, Sandvika, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Bergen), each of them having a well chosen location, in the neighbourhood or even within museums, and with a special view. At all the Bølgen og Moi locations one can serve during the day the breakfast, lunch and dinner, and moreover all these places have their own bar with an impressive wine collection. Their menus are varied and of great quality, and they are changed depending on the season. So, one can have a sandwich, pizza, hamburgers, soups, main dishes, different types of cheese, delicious desserts prepared in their kitchen. Also, any of the dishes can be ordered half size for children. The bar has different French and Spanish wines, which can be served as a full bottle or just one glass.

The Bølgen og Moi from Bergen can be found at the address Rasmus Meyers 9, within the Bergen Art Museum (which is between the concert hall Grieghallen and the Lille Lungegårdsvann lake) very close to central bus station. The place is open daily, Thursday to Saturday, from 11:00 – 01:00, Sundays from 12:00 – 17:00, with Monday closed. We made our booking for 5 persons directly on their website here, but you can also do it by phone, and the menus can be seen here and here.

Our dinner began with a small appetizer on the house, until we got our order. The appetizer was a small portion of smoked salmon with dill and pistachio served with focaccia bread and aioli. The main course was different for the five of us, the weird thing was that I cannot find 3 of the orders on their internet page menu, and now I am not sure what these were :(.

I personally had a “Perlehøne”, which was a Guineafowl with a fig sauce and different vegetables (I am sorry I cannot remember accurately what it was, but I never thought that the menu would be different on the website) + one glass of white wine. Another menu that was served was Limousine beef steak, with French fries, pepper sauce and Bearnaise sauce, and another two lamb specialities which unfortunately I cannot find on the website menu 😦 and one portion of fries with aioli for children, one Sprite and a glass of red white.

For desert we had 3 deserts of the day, which was a white chocolate mousse with blackcurrant ice cream, one desert with a whiskey aroma chocolate, one Pavlova (a meringue with a crisp crust and mascarpone cream, with baked plumes and honey roasted almonds), one espresso and a caffe latte.

In the end the bill for two persons and one child, tip included was 1100 NOK, approx. 140 euros.

Yes’s:

– a big plus for the way the tables were set up, truly artistic, each table had its own personality, and the napkins, cutlery and glasses were arranged in different and unique ways. Very beautiful;

– kids get coloured crayons and can draw on the table, I mean there was a big sheet of paper over the table cloth on which kids could spend their time drawing, a very nice way of giving them an occupation while waiting and not getting bored;

– good location, nice and tasteful decorations on the inside;

– service and waiter excellent;

– the wine was good (even though I do not remember exactly what type it was);

– out of 4 main courses (without the children menu which was just French fries) 3 of them were satisfying;

– plates and cutlery very special;

– out of five deserts, 4 were satisfying.

No’s:

– the beef steak should have been well done and got it rather medium rare;

– the chocolate desert was cold and hard, it must have been stayed in the fridge, was hard to eat with a small spoon and tasted a bit old or rather of something weird from the fridge;

– I used the bathroom two times and it did not look very good, toilet paper on the floor, a full waste basket with paper towels around on the floor, a wet sink;

– the music inside was a bit loud, I could hardly hear the others speaking from across the table;

– the web page needs to be updated with all modifications to the menu;

– slow kitchen, we had to wait for almost an hour for the main courses…

Finally: If you are walking in the town or if you want to organize a family party, or just want a special dinner, do not miss Bølgen og Moi. It is really a special place in Bergen and it will be a special memory. Maybe we did not get the best beef steak or chocolate desert, but this will not come in the way of going back there. I heard that they serve the best burger in town… I can’t wait to try it. But until then, based on what I saw and experimented, and considering the Bølgen og Moi wants to be a top restaurant, there are improvements to be made. My mark is 4.0.
