Ei bine cum am avut ocazia sa calatoresc foarte mult am renuntat la regula aceasta acum aproximativ 1 an.

It is said that the sum of all vices is constant in one’s life. You know how it is, if you don’t smoke… you drink, if you don’t drink… you smoke, and if you don’t smoke nor drink… you like women :). So, I cannot say that I am more “special”, so that if I do not drink, smoke nor like women (in that particular way 🙂 ), I do enjoy some other vices, some of them similarly expensive if not more expensive. Besides chocolate, clothes, watches, jeweleries, purses, travels, and so on… my number one vice resumes to perfumes.

Here in Norway, I counted before writing this post, 23 perfume bottles. In Romania I surely have at least 10 more. I guess I am using 5, let’s say 10 of them, but the rest… I have no idea why I bought them and more importantly what did I like about them?! Until recently I had one rule, let’s call it rule number 1, which says that ”I will buy one perfume from each airport I go through”. Well, since I have been fortunate to travel a lot, I gave up this rule about one year ago. Why?! For the simple reason that I do not have enough space to deposit them, I cannot use all of them, I have not used one perfume entirely (I might be lying here, I have thrown away an almost empty bottle of Britney Spears perfume, if that counts), but mostly… and more importantly… I do not buy more perfumes because it is terrible to clean and dust them all! Could you imagine how terrible it is? Each Saturday I take them off my dressing table, dust the table, take each bottle and dust it round-about, under the lid too, some of them have such a weird shape that is so difficult to clean, with models and curves and channels, and then I put them back to place, more or less in the same position, so that I can remember which is where in the morning when I have my eyes half-closed. OK, let’s say that after they are clean and in their proper place, and I can see them lined-up all shining like small or large diamonds, as each case is, I take pleasure in looking at them… but as I said I don’t use them all, and it’s a pity.

So now I have a different rule, let’s call it rule number two, it goes like this… each time when I go to Romania I take with me 3-4-5 perfumes which I conclude I do not like, I will not like… I have not used and I will not use either in the near, nor the far future. In short, I will never use them! So, I take them home thinking that my mother, sisters-in-law or friends would pick one and use it. Because, in fact, it would be a shame to throw them away, full bottles, some pretty expensive, especially that I have the possibility to make someone happy. But do not think that I give them for free, without getting at least something in return… no way. I give them with the hope and the pleasure of thinking that one day I would have enough space on my dresser. Why? Simple, because there are other perfumes to try and buy… I have a list already!

This experience made me realize the following: I had no idea how to pick a perfume and I did not choose one correctly. In the duty-free zone there are hundreds of perfumes, each more appealing than the other, I go in there like Alice in Wonderland and run from shelf to shelf, taking perfume bottles with both hands to smell and check this one and that one, what aroma does this one have… I guess you can imagine how it is, especially when you have a short transit. I probably wished I was an octopus to have more arms…. six, eight? How many does an octopus have by the way?! Anyway, it doesn’t matter, I guess you can see me between those shelves 🙂 The problem is that two arms are enough when you have one nose and one sense of smell. A sense which becomes a bit disoriented after being subjected to a cocktail of 4-5-10 perfumes. Perhaps the human body is not correctly built in that sense, but anyway, that’s another digression…

So now, I became a bit wiser and wrote down a little guide about perfumes. This guide will be posted in gold letters, and which I will read each time the situation requires, I hope that will be soon :). I hope that this guide will be helpful for lots of other girls, ladies and why not gentlemen when choosing/testing/using a perfume. Afterwards, I will start to review each perfume, with comparisons so that I will not repeat some of my earlier mistakes.
